This ride is a broad anti-clockwise (widdershins) loop around Shrewsbury. Click here to see the detailed route on Komoot: Widdershins around Shrewsbury or here on Garmin Connect: Widdershins around Shrewsbury. It is 37 miles long with only one significant hill (Lyth Hill after 5 miles) and, after that, the route is relatively flat (for Shropshire). The track down from Lyth Hill is gravel and may be muddy if it is has been raining recently, but there is an alternative route on roads through Exfords Green if needed. This is the last ride of our cycling trip to Shrewsbury and is shorter that the others because we plan to finish mid-afternoon to give people time to return home and prepare for work (or to continue their retirement) on Tuesday. But if anyone wants to ride back home, there is an option to head North after lunch (at 22.5 miles) to Chester Station; a further 33.5 miles, 56 miles in total. Here is the route back to Chester on Komoot: Riding back to Chester after Lunch and here on Garmin Connect: Riding back to Chester after Lunch.
The ride starts at 9:30 am from Quarry Park in Shrewsbury, just inside the park gates on St Chad’s Terrace, opposite St Chad’s Church. Please try to get to the starting point by 09:15, so we can discuss the route and organise ourselves into groups. The morning stop for a coffee, tea and cakes will be at the Village Store in Upton Magna, before heading north for lunch at The Rural Space Cafe at Harmer Hill. Then a return to Shrewsbury with a final stop at the Montford Bridge Cafe, provided we can figure out how to reach it without going on the A5.
