Route planned by Michael Phillips -Worcester Meerkat Wheelers
Ride Leader: Robert Holmes
Meeting at the Premier Inn City Centre Hotel at 9.45am for a 10am departure.
This ride is 51 miles long and with approximately 1650 ft of climbing.
Mostly rolling hills but with a few stiff climbs to be ridden at one’s own pace.
Those staying at the M5/J6 (Six Ways) Premier Inn may wish to meet the group at a point on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal towpath where a large black pipe crosses over the canal. The group starting from the City Centre hotel will be passing this point at about 10.30am. More details will be available from Rob Holmes. See the route from the M5/J6 hotel to the “black pipe” by following the Komoot link below:
The route follows the Worcester & Birmingham Canal , North out of Worcester and on through Droitwich Spa. At a crossroads North of Droitwich, we will turn right to travel in a South Easterly direction, going through Wychbold and then Astwood.
Shortly after Astwood is the biggest climb (similar to Denhall Lane) finishing with a very short, very steep section up to Hanbury Church.
The church has commanding views from it’s hilltop site and is a good place to stop for a banana break. There may be some church activity, it being Sunday and Father’s Day.
Following our break, will make our way South along country lanes to Flyford Flavell and our lunch stop which is the #nom Café.
After lunch, we will continue South through Bishampton and Throckmorton, eventually turning Westwards to go through Wyre Piddle and the busy town of Pershore.
Continuing West until we cross over the M5 motorway we then turn North to return to Worcester. We cross over the Severn on Diglis Bridge to join the Malvern Pedway leading back to the hotel.
