Route planned by Michael Phillips -Worcester Meerkat Wheelers
Ride leader: David Brewer
Meeting at the Premier Inn City Centre Hotel at 9.45am for a 10am departure.
Those staying at the M5/J6 (Six Ways) Premier Inn may wish to meet the group at the bus stop on Woodgreen Drive (golf course) after Mill Wood Drive.
The route to this point is shown on the Komoot map link below
The group from the City Centre Hotel will pass this point at approximately 10.30am.
This ride is 50 miles long and with approximately 2300 ft of climbing.
Mostly rolling hills but with a few stiff climbs to be ridden at one’s own pace.
The route takes us to the East of Worcester as far as Alcester before turning back.
While it takes a little while to get clear of Worcester, we will soon emerge into quiet country lanes, cycling through Himbleton. Along from Himbleton is the Shell Ford picnic area where we can stop for a banana break. From there comes Feckingham, Astwood Bank and Sambourne before stopping briefly at the gates of Coughton Hall. There we will learn a little about our history concerning the Throckmorton family. A short way on from Coughton Hall is another ford crossing which presents a photo opportunity. From there we will gradually change direction for the return to Worcester and cycle through the town of Alcester.
Shortly past Dunnington we will call at Hillers Farm Shop and Garden Restaurant for lunch.
The return leg will take us through Goom’s Hill, Radford, Abberton, Naunton Beauchamp and Pinvin before skimming Pershore. More country lanes take us through Drake Broughton and Wadborough before returning to Worcester and the Premier Inn.
