Peter Williams (C) Thornton Hough to Caergwrle (Honey's)

10:30 Wednesday July 7 2021

Current Participants: 2 space(s) available

Distance The ride is 18.6 miles out to Honey’s Cafe in Caergwrle and will be a Grade C – B ride. With a return route back to Thornton Hough of 22.2 miles. 40.8 in total.

Meeting We will be meeting at Thornton Hough community hall at 10:30 for a 10:45 depart.

Possible obstacles There are a number of long and quite steep hills on the outward leg, Queens Ferry (A550) up to Hawarden is 1.6 miles which is a steady climb. Another steeper and hilly road (5 min later) is the one out of Hawarden having dropped down into a valley you then climb up to the Old Hope Road the climb is for approximately 2 mile. So on the day you will need to bring your climbing legs and use those lower gears.

Route is available on Komoot Thornton Hough to Caergwrle

Lunch will be at Honey’s (about 1.15) which we as a group have visited on a number of times over recent years, I have booked three tables, preferably outside but this is dependent upon the weather. Should you have any dietary needs then please phone the cafe and make your own individual arrangements.

Hazards Riding a bicycle on public roads is inherently a risk, you can mitigate those risks by being aware of other road users and anticipating their likely actions.

After Lunch I will be returning back to Thornton Hough via Kinnerton and Saltney Ferry bridge.

Trains There is a train station in Caergwrle that will return you to the Wirral so I would advise you to bring money for both your lunch and the train should you choose to use them. Departs Caergwrle at 44 min past the hour every hour.
