This ride is only open to members of the Wirral Cycling Group.  If you are an experienced rider who has ridden with other cycling groups and would like to join us on a ride, then please get in touch with us via the <Contact Form> so we can make arrangements.  If you have not ridden with a cycling group before, and would like to find out what riding with our group is like, then please book onto one of our monthly rides for newcomers.

      Before you join the ride please make sure that your bicycle is safe and roadworthy GCN’s 6 Checks Before You Ride and that you have read Cycling UK’s advice on riding in a group .

      On the day we suggest that you should bring:

      • wet weather wear and warm clothing
      • a spare inner tube, a pump  and tyre levers
      • some food and drink to keep you going
      • money for emergencies (and possibly lunch)
      • a mobile phone

      and that you should carry details of your address and an emergency telephone contact number, just in case.

      Distance The ride is 24.2 miles out to Yvonne’s Cafe in Connors Quay and will be a Grade C ride. With a return route back to Red Rooms of 13.2 miles. 37.4 in total.

      Meeting We will be meeting at Red Rooms (Golf Shop Arrowe Park) at 10:30 for a 10:45 depart.

      Possible obstacles This is a mainly flat route and no major obstacles, there are a few places where you should take extra care when crossing busy main roads and junctions.

      Route is available on Garmin Red Rooms to Yvonne’s the return route will be over the boards, up through Neston and Leighton Rd, Heswall and return along Barnston rd to Arrowe Park.

      Lunch will be at Yvonne’s (about 1.15) which we as a group have visited on a number of times over recent years, I have let them know we are coming however you can not reserve a table. Should you have any dietary needs then please phone the cafe and make your own individual arrangements.

      Hazards Riding a bicycle on public roads is inherently a risk, you can mitigate those risks by being aware of other road users and anticipating their likely actions.

      After Lunch I will be returning back to Red Rooms.

      Trains There is a train station in Neston that will return you to the Wirral so I would advise you to bring money for both your lunch and the train should you choose to use them. Departs Neston at 11 min past the hour every hour £3.50.
