This ride is only open to members of the Wirral Cycling Group.  If you are an experienced rider who has ridden with other cycling groups and would like to join us on a ride, then please get in touch with us via the <Contact Form> so we can make arrangements.  If you have not ridden with a cycling group before, and would like to find out what riding with our group is like, then please book onto one of our monthly rides for newcomers.

(C) Capenhurst to Beeston Castle

    Distance is approximately 43 miles – 23 out and 20 back. Grade C  ride  with a few hills but quite long. No off road – tarmac only.

    David Brewer is Ride Leader.  Start point is Capenhurst Station. We will also return to there.

    The route is out down Dunkirk Lane then east along A5117 cycle path to Little Stanney; then turn down  Rake Lane, Chorlton, past Chester Zoo; left down Acres Lane; Mickle Trafford; Guilden Sutton; Christleton; Waverton; Long Lane; Hargrave; Huxley; Bates Mill Lane; past Shady Oak pub;  up the hill to Beeston Castle for lunch; Back via Newton; past Ice Cream Factory past Old Ma’s cafe ;  Gatesheath; Bruera; Saighton; Waverton; GS; Mickle Trafford; Backford and Dunkirk.

    Komoot course is- Komoot

    Lunch is  planned for at English Heritage’s picnic site near the castle gate. There are plenty of picnic tables and you can bring your own food (it is allowed!). There is also a kiosk selling hot and cold drinks; soup; sausage rolls and pasties.  Old Ma’s cafe  on Newton Lane after Ice Cream Factory and Junction is another alternative if it rains!

    For a shorter ride back an alternative  route is  to Chester/ Chester Station  and may be made by diverting at  Saighton.
