35 miles, Grade C: Hooton to Churton via Holt

35 miles, C ride pace, well surfaced roads & cycle paths, with a short stretch of canal in Chester, but nothing a road bike can’t handle. The route is predominantly flat, undulating in parts, with a short steep rise away from the bridge connecting Holt & Farndon.

The ride starts from Hooton station & covers 25 miles before stopping for lunch at The Hideaway Cafe near Churton.  The second leg of 10 miles terminates at Chester railway station.

The outward leg uses the Missing Link to Capenhurst, the A5117 bike path, Lodge Lane to Saughall, a brief section of the Greenway, through Blacon to Saltney Ferry bridge, thereafter country lanes mainly through Bretton, Dodleston, Pulford, the Rosset area, to Holt; back to England in Farndon & soon after lunch near Churton.

The return leg of 10 miles heads for Aldford, Bruera & then a little climb into Saighton. From Saighton, Sandy Lane runs down towards Chester, through Caldy Valley up to Boughton Heath, then a short section of the Shropshire Union Canal, culminating at Chester railway station.
