John H (B) Birkenhead Park over Wirral Hills

      The ride is open to all paid -up members of the Wirral Cycling Group and to any guest who has been on one of our newcomers’ rides.


      You must not join a ride if you or anyone in your household is experiencing any of the Covid-19 symptoms or if you have been advised to self-isolate


      The ride will be approximately 33 miles,  Grade B and hilly, starting at 10:00 am from outside the Birkenhead Park Visitor Centre on Park Drive.  On Sunday mornings trains arrive at Birkenhead Park station from Hamilton Square at 09:44, from West Kirby at 09:51 and from New Brighton at 09:36.  The ride leader will be John Hampson and he will be at the start from 09:45.

      The route out will go up through Oxton, then over Prenton Hill and down to Port Sunlight before going over Rest Hill to Storeton and then via Barnston Dip and Pensby to Heswall, before stopping for lunch at Thurstaston Beach.

      Then back up Thurstaston Hill, around the outside of Royden Park, before dropping back down to Caldy and West Kirby.  Then over Column Hill, through Frankby and Greasby to Arrowe Park, then down to Upton Station, and the final push over Bidston Hill before returning to Birkenhead Park.  We plan to be back at the Park by 14:30.
