D / C suitable for newcommers. Thornton Hough circular. No lunch stop

10:00 Monday December 29 2025

Current Participants: 12 space(s) available

There is no lunch stop today :- The intention today is get you out for a leg stretch, not a race, I just felt that three weeks without a ride would leave us all struggling in the New Year. Today is therefore only a short two hours riding with the possibility of a comfort break and coffee and a snack at Hadlow Road, Station Master cafe.

Rides are classified on three important criteria –

Distance, todays ride is 22.5 starting and finishing in Thornton Hough.

Elevation, relatively flat, 375 ft climb over the whole route.

Ride Leaders specified speed. In order to achieve an average speed one has to ride at a much higher speed.

Grade D/ C Average speed 10 – 12 mph you should be able to ride at 13 to 15 MPH for a short period.

    Thornton Hough Village Hall circular

Route – Possibly reverse route. Mainly flat with a few upward slopes 375 ft over the ride. Down through The Runnel through Neston and on past Net’s cafe, before going over the boards to Deeside Ind Pk. We will then go up Mudhouse Lane and turn towards the Blue Dragon bridge before going alongside the duel carriageway towards Dunkirk where we will turn towards Capenhurst, Ledsham, Missing Link and Raby before getting back to Thornton Hough.

Meeting We will be meeting at Thornton Hough at 09:45 for a 10:00 depart. The cafe is not open until the New Year.

Possible obstacles No major problems with this route, it is familiar to most of us, we will take extra care when crossing any main roads or major junctions we will look for pedestrian crossings / islands and traffic lights.

Route is available on Komoot  Thornton Hough  If you require the route on other formats please let me know.

Hazards Riding a bicycle on public roads is inherently a risk, from busy traffic, you can mitigate those risks by being aware of other road users and anticipating their likely actions. If you have not done so then please do read the WCG guide and Risk Assessment policy

Trains On the outward leg there a number of Merseyrail stations that will take you to Wirral I would advise you to bring money for both your lunch and the train should you choose to use them.
