(A) Century (or not) Burton Marsh Gate 9am Ellesmere

Friday century ish ride starting at Burton Marsh Gate 9am

The usual ‘Century’ format in that this is a big loop (82m) from the Marsh Gate and riders need to commute the necessary distance to get a full century.

Ideally any centurions should subtact their direct return distance and the 82m loop and then ride whatever shortfall to the start as you probably won’t feel like adding anything extra on afterwards…

A middle distance option is a Hooton start/end with that adding 10m to the loop, parking there is cheaper than paying for an early train, or park at Hadlow for free and have a 2.5m commute each way.

Shortest option is to do ‘just’ the loop, indeed a bail out option is available at Chester Station which could save 11 miles from the loop BUT note this Merseyrail legsaver (TM) only really works if you haven’t left your car at the marshes (if you did then add 5 miles to get back to it!).

From the Marsh gate we ride through D.I.P.  to the Saltney footbridge then Bretton, Dodleston, Rossett and our first halt at The Hwb, this stop should be a bit over the quarter point for centurions, about 18m from the gate.

Then we head South staying on the Welsh side to Bowling Bank, Bangor on Dee, Overton, towards Hindford but veering towards Ellesmere for lunch 25m. Outbound is 900′ of climb as plotted.

After lunch leg 3 takes us via Hanmer and Threapwood to Worthenbury and Shocklach, from here we are back on more familiar roads, for a change we skirt Farndon going instead directly to Churton, then through Aldford and on up through Bruera and Saighton to cross the A41, to find the cakemobile at Saighton at 25m.

Final leg back to the gate is Huntington, Dee Banks, canal briefly then passing Chester Station (4m) then onto Lightfoot Street to the Bache ramp on the Greenway, back to the gate is a 15m leg. 800′ of climb on return legs.
