Route Out: The ride starts at Hooton railway station after 20 miles there are a number of long and quite steep hills on the outward leg, Old Warren in Broughton is 1.3 miles of steady climbing. The following hills are frequent, but not long in duration although they can be steep; the roads around Lower Mountain and Caergwrle are short sharp and sapping hills. So on the day you will need to bring your climbing legs and use those lower gears.

Distance, todays ride is 28 miles to lunch and 19.2 back to Hooton a total of 48.3 miles
Lunch: is at Honey’s. Should you have any dietary needs then please phone the cafe and make your own individual arrangements. After Lunch the route returns back to Hawarden bridge cycle path, over the marshes and up to Hooton.
Route is available on Komoot; Hooton to Caergwrle return to Hooton
Speed, Ride Leaders specified speed. In order to achieve an average speed one has to ride at a much higher speed.
Grade B Average speed 10 – 12 mph you should be able to ride at 13 to 15 MPH for a prolong period.
Return Route Penny-ford, Little Mountain, Ewole, Shotton, and back to Hooton.
Meeting We will be meeting at Hooton Station at 09:45 for a 10:00 depart.
Possible obstacles No major problems with this route, it is familiar to most of us, we will take extra care when crossing any main roads or major junctions we will look for pedestrian crossings / islands and traffic lights.
Hazards Riding a bicycle on public roads is inherently a risk, from busy traffic, you can mitigate those risks by being aware of other road users and anticipating their likely actions. If you have not done so then please do read the WCG guide and Risk Assessment policy
After Lunch I will be returning back to Hooton.
Trains On the outward leg there a number of Merseyrail stations that will take you to Wirral I would advise you to bring money for both your lunch and the train should you choose to use them.
