The ride begins at 9:30 by the starting point of the Way of the Roses on the promenade at Morecambe. Please be at the start by 09:15.
The route goes out North East along the promenade and then through Hest Bank and Bolton-le-Sands to the outskirts of Carnforth, which it skirts to the West, goes over the River Keet and the West side of Warton Crag to Silverdale and over the top of the hills for a break by the estuary of the River Kent at Arnside. Then alongside the estuary to the confluence with the River Bela and through the Deer Park at Dallam Tower, before heading South through Beetham, Yealand Redmayne and Warton, and into Carnforth for lunch.
After lunch, back to Lancaster via Nether Kellet, but passing through Lancaster to Middleton and on to Heysham to visit St Peter’s Church before returning up the coastal path to Morecambe.
A Grade B ride of 42.8 miles, with 1,950 ft of elevation at an average speed of just around 11 mph. All on good quality surfaces, with just under a mile on the canal path a between Bolton-le-Sands and Carnforth: there is the option to ride along the A6 instead of the canal path for that section if you prefer.
