(B) Hooton to Delamere Forest

10:00 Wednesday February 18 2026

Current Participants: 7 space(s) available

This is a 50 mile route, graded B with around 1500ft of climbing around Delamere and Kelsall. We’ll be aiming for an average pace of 12-14 mph, so given the number of climbs we’ll be travelling faster than this for much of the ride.

The ride leader is Steve Downs. The ride starts and finishes at Hooton train station. Start time is 10.00, with a pre-ride briefing at 09.45.

The ride follows the well-known route from Hooton to Capenhurst and Cheshire Oaks. We’ll then head out on main roads past Stanlow towards Helsby, and then cut into pleasant country lanes through Kingsley and Norley before dropping down to Delamere Forest for lunch. We’ll stop at the Station Cafe for lunch, which hopefully won’t be too busy on a Wednesday (there are plenty of outdoor seats if you want to bring your own sandwiches). After lunch the route heads to Kelsall, then a pleasant downhill ride through Willington, Oscroft, Mickle Trafford, Stoak and back to Hooton.
