Starting by the Beatles’ Statue at the Pier Head in Liverpool, this is a grade C ride out to the North, then travelling down the Liverpool Loop Line, with lunch in Calderstones Park, before returning to the Pier Head; a distance of just over 35 miles.
The route goes out up Duke Street and past both the Anglican and Catholic cathedrals to Everton Brow where there are great views over the city. After reaching the top of the Brow, we will head on through Stanley Park and past Walton Village and Bootle to the Rimrose Valley Park, where we will stop for a quick snack. Then across Netherton and through Aintree Racecourse on the Melling Road to join the northern end of the Liverpool Loop line and travel 11 miles to the southern end at Halewood. Turning west we will go via Hunt’s Cross and past Woolton to Calderstones Park for lunch at the Reader Café (there are park benches nearby for those who want to bring their own sandwiches).
After lunch we will cross Sefton Park and Princes Park to return to the riverbank by the Albert Dock and finish back at the Pier Head around 15:30.
The route is relatively flat (one small hill up to Everton Brow) with just under half of the route on quite roads and just under half on dedicated cycleways.
The ride leader, Joh Hampson, will be at the Pier Head from 09:40. Please get there by 09:50 for the pre-ride briefing.
