(D) Peak Cluster pipeline tour -part 1

10:30 Wednesday March 25 2026

Current Participants: 14 space(s) available

    In this section:

This is a special ride, stopping briefly at a number of points along the proposed western tip siting of the controversial Peak Cluster CO2 pipeline.

The ride leader is Rob Holmes and I will be at West Kirby train station from 10.15am for a 10.30am start.

The route is short (less than 23 miles total) because of the number of stops and the pace will be “D” category (average 8 to 10 mph).

From West Kirby we will make our way via Hoylake Station to the Promenade and travel along the front to Join the sea wall at Meols. Just before we come off the sea wall at Leasowe Lighthouse, we will pause to survey the possible shore site of the “Above Ground Installation” (AGI) and the exit point of the pipe from land to sea,

From there we will take the Wirral Circular Trail to join Pasture Road towards Moreton. Turning right into Maryland  Lane we will cycle through to Carr Lane and our second stop to look at the pipe route to the shore AGI. At the top of Carr Lane we will Join Hoylake Road for our third stop to view the Eastern border of the possible inland AGI and the first of two alternative crossings of the pipe into old brickworks land. The second alternative crossing is close to Meols train station and this will be our fourth pause as we pass enroute back to Hoylake.

Once into Hoylake we will turn from Birkenhead Road into Melrose Avenue and cross the railway (if possible) into Proctor Road and onto the Carr Lane footpath which skirts the West border of the possible inland AGI site. This will be our fifth stop if practical. I will not know if the Carr Lane footpath is navigable until I recce it. If not I will need to change the route,

Emerging from Carr Lane we will cross straight over into China Farm Lane to Newton and then turn left onto Franky Road. At Frankby we will have stop number six to observe the pipe route across Frankby Road. The pipe will cross Hill Bark Road on the way up to the Irby Mill Pub and then cross Mill Hill Road on it’s way to Arrowe Park. We will pause here for our seventh stop.

Working our way to Thingwall Road we will have stop eight to look at where the pipeline enters Arrowe Park Golf Couse on it’s way to Landican Lane.

From here we may call at Red Rooms for a banana break. After our break we will leave the pipe route and cycle via Pensby to lunch at the Whistle Stop Café or Flissy’s.

The route back to West Kirby is straight along the Wirral Way for those wishing to do so.

Although personally I oppose this pipeline, I will aim make my commentary factual and unbiased. I intend to provide maps with the proposed pipeline route laid over OS mapping.
