This is ride is open to all members of the Wirral Cycling Group, but is also suitable for people who have not previously ridden with a cycling group.  If you would like to join us on a ride, then book onto this ride using the form below, but please telephone or email the ride leader when you receive the booking confirmation to let them know about your experience and capabilities.  
Before the ride, check out the page on our website about taking part in one of our rides "Taking Part", and read the Advice from Cycling UK on riding in a group.  If you are new to riding with a group, please arrive 15 minutes before the advertised start time, so that the ride leader can brief you on how to ride safely with a group of other riders. 

If you have an underlying health condition which could flare up when cycling (such as diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, anaphylactic shock, heart issues, etc.), then it would be appreciated if you could disclose this to the ride leader (in confidence) prior to the start of the ride



(D)New Brighton to Thurstaston – These rides are open to Newcomers

    Rides are classified on three important criteria –

    Distance, todays ride is 15 to lunch and 11 miles back to The Floral a total of —- miles

    Elevation, relatively flat, 500 ft climb – the biggest of the day will be up to Irby

    Ride Leaders specified speed. In order to achieve an average speed one has to ride at a much higher speed.

    Grade D Average speed 9 – 10mph, you should be able to ride at 12 MPH for a prolong period.

    Route  This ride is a D ride, from Floral Pavilion New Brighton to Thurstaston

    Return Route West Kirby – Hoylake – Moreton – New Brighton.

    Meeting We will be meeting at Floral Pavilion at 09:45 for a 10:00 depart.

    Possible obstacles No major problems with this route, it is familiar to most of us, we will take extra care when crossing any main roads or major junctions we will look for pedestrian crossings / islands and traffic lights.

    Outward Route is available on Komoot New Brighton to Thurstaston

    Hazards Riding a bicycle on public roads is inherently a risk, from busy traffic, you can mitigate those risks by being aware of other road users and anticipating their likely actions. If you have not done so then please do read the WCG guide and Risk Assessment policy

    After Lunch I will be returning back to the Floral.

    Trains There are a number of Merseyrail stations that will take you to Wirral I would advise you to bring money for both your lunch and the train should you choose to use them.

    On the day we suggest that you should bring:

    • wet weather wear and warm clothing
    • a spare inner tube, a pump  and tyre levers
    • some food and drink to keep you going
    • money for emergencies (and possibly lunch)
    • a mobile phone

    and that you should carry details of your address and an emergency telephone contact number, just in case.
