South Liverpool Parks, plus Speke Hall and the Georgian Quarter

      Grade D

      Leader:  Steve Whittaker

      Start time: 1030 am

      Start: Pier Head/Beatles Statues

      Distance: 23 miles

For those on the Wirral, getting to Liverpool would probably mean using a Merseyrail Saveaway ticket, Merseyrail Pass, or the Mersey Ferry.

      My phone number is 07943804756

Addendum:  Slight change to the route:  Beaconsfield Road is steep, narrow, busy, and has potholes, and there are 15 of us.  Hence we’re going down Druids Cross Road to Calderstones Park.

ps the cafe is called the Reader cafe, in the centre of the park.

Leaving Pier Head, we make our way along Blundell Street, Jamaica Street and Grafton Street, before dropping down to Otterspool promenade, via the Festival Gardens. At Grassendale we continue to Cressington Park, then up to Aigburth Road. We cycle along Garston Old Road, to Garston village, through the traffic lights,  past the St Michaels church and onto Garston Shore Road. We then cycle through the Estuary Business Park and onto Speke Hall. Note we are not going into the hall (£9 entry), just stopping for a photo and banana break.

From Speke Hall, we come back on the same road and make our way towards Hunts Cross , passing Dobbies and, for a short time, cycle on the cycle path next to the main road, towards Woodend Avenue. We cycle uphill along Speke Road, past Woolton golf course and onto Woolton village. We cycle through Woolton village, uphill along Church Road, past St Peter’s church and stop at Reynolds Park. We then cycle down Beaconsfield Road – fairly steep downhill plus traffic! (past Strawberry Fields) to Calderstones Park and a Cafe stop.

We then head to Rose Lane, up to Mossley Hill Church and down to Greenbank Park. We then cycle into Sefton Park, and out past Belvidere school, into Princes Park. Following blue cycle signs, we aim for Admiral Street and Windsor Street, coming out at Parliament Street. We then cross over and cycle along Hope Street and take a short route round the Georgian Quarter before cycling down Duke Street, through China Town and onto the Strand for James Street or Pier Head.
