Here is the Strava Route for the ride.  One slight mistake on the TPT, and a few in Runcorn! due to new housing estates at Spennymoor!   Note, the distance is now 48 miles (not 52).   Runcorn is difficult to get through. Maybe I should have used the Bridgewater canal, but the tow path is a bit narrow? and busy?  There is a cafe in Frodham called the Coffee Shop – at the end of the High Street/corner of Fountain Street.

Leaving Pier Head, we set off south towards Otterspool promenade and onto Grassendale. Then, cycle up to Aigburth Road, turn right, then left through Garston village. At the 2nd set of traffic lights, turn right, past St Michael’s Church, and bear right then left to reach Garston Shore Road. Cycling away from the river, take the second right, then right at the roundabout and left along Hale Road, past All Saints Church. Turn left and cycle to Hale village. We are now on the TPT (Transpennine Trail). From Hale village, continue east, turn right into Pickering Pastures. Continuing on the TPT, we cycle towards the old Runcorn Bridge, which includes one section where we have to carry our bikes up a hill/staircase (at Ditton brook). Continue on the TPT, past Spike Island to Fiddler’s Ferry and then the Ferry Tavern (possible café stop), before arriving at the A5060 at Lower Walton.

We turn right and cross over the Manchester Ship Canal. Turn right onto the A56 to Higher Walton. Turn right and cycle through Moore and onto to Norton/Runcorn and through to Sutton Weaver. Take the A56 and cycle to Frodsham, on a busy road, for a café stop in Frodsham.

      36 miles

Heading west, we come out of Frodsham, then turn left along the B5393 and cycle uphill to Alvanley. Turning left, we cycle towards Mouldsworth, then, after 2 miles, turn right, towards Dunham Heath and end up back on the A56, close to Bridge Trafford.  Carrying on along the A56 for 2 miles, we turn right at Mickle Trafford, then head to Picton Gorse and left to Upton Heath. Cross over the main road, A41, to Bache Merseyrail station.

      16 miles

Note.  There is an option to finish at Chester, or continue to the Wirral and complete a “Mersey Loop”.
