The only rough section is the Missing Link. The 3 miles of canal tow path is on a very good (gravel or tarmac) surface.
Leaving Port Sunlight, the route heads towards Heath Road and Bracken Lane Road and on to Brimstage, Thornton Hough and Hooton via Benty Heath Lane. It then goes through the Missing Link to Capenhurst and Dunkirk, and alongside the railway to Lea by Backford. It turns right at the A41 for 200m and then right onto the canal and follows the tow path (south) for about 3 miles until to the Greenway. Then it follows the Greenway, through the Deeside Industrial estate and Burton Marshes and onto the Blue Cycle Cafe at Neston. From the Cafe, the route returns to Hooton through Willaston.
