38 miles, Grade C: Formby to Southport via Beacon Country Park

This is a ride of 38 miles, Grade C on mainly flat quiet country lanes, but with one very big hill up to the Beacon Country Park (425 ft in two miles).

The ride starts from outside Formby Railway station.

The route goes out from Formby to Great Altcar, then on to Downholland and Aughton, south of Ormskirk, and north of Skelmersdale, before the ascent of Beacon Hill after 17 miles, where there is a stop for a break.  Then down the other side of the hill to Upholland, turning north to Newburgh and on for lunch at Burscough Bridge after 27  miles.  After lunch the route  goes on to Southport where trains leave for Liverpool every 30 minutes.
