43 miles, Grade C: Golf Courses of the Wirral from Bromborough Station

To celebrate the return of the British Open to Wirral in July 2023, this is a ride of just over 41 miles at Grade C around the golf courses (past and present) of the Wirral.  About a third of the distance will be on unpaved gravel tracks (as on the Wirral Way), so a hybrid may be more suitable for this route than a road bike.

The route (On Komoot: Golf Courses of the Wirral) goes through, or past, all 19 golf courses on the Wirral:

  1. Eastham Lodge Golf Club (1974)
  2. Port Sunlight Golf Course (1931, closed 1974)
  3. Brackenwood Golf Course (1935, temporarily closed in 2022)
  4. Higher Bebington Golf Club (1901, closed 1931)
  5. Prenton Golf Club (1905)
  6. Arrowe Park Golf Course (1931)
  7. Wirral (Ladies) Golf Club (1907)
  8. West Cheshire Golf Club (1908, closed 1952)
  9. Bidston Golf Club (1925)
  10. Wallasey Golf Club (1891)
  11. The Warren Golf Course (1910)
  12. Leasowe Golf Club (1893)
  13. Moreton Ladies Golf Club (1894, closed 1915)
  14. Hoylake Ladies Golf Club (1895 -1900)
  15. Hoylake (Ladies) Golf Club (1900)
  16. Royal Liverpool Golf Club (1869)
  17. Caldy Golf Club (1907)
  18. Heswall Golf Club (1902)
  19. Bromborough Golf Club (1903)

There is a short break at Bidston Court Gardens after 16 miles and lunch is at Wirral Country Park by the River Dee, where there are two cafes, Flissy’s and the Whistle Stop, and places to sit out and eat your own sandwiches if you prefer.
