44 miles, Grade C: Boat Museum to Pier Head via the Runcorn Bridge

This is a C grade ride starting from outside the Boat Museum, Ellesmere Port.

Lunch will be at the West Bank Boat Club cafe after 3.5 hours.  There is a break at Dutton Locks for a quick snack.

The ride pace will be usual for a C ride, but there is quite a lot of off-road such as Bridgewater Canal and across tracks and a field (following NR5) around Dutton Locks.  It passable on a road bike, but better on a hybrid.

From the Boat Museum through the Industrial Estate, then alongside the A5117 before turning right and going up to Dunham-on-the-Hill, Mouldsworth, Delamere (on a tarmac road ) and through Hatchmere and skirting around Crowton to our snack stop by the Dutton Locks.  Next some mixed bridleways for just over a mile to Aston. Then through Preston Brook to join the Bridgewater canal, over Runcorn Bridge on a dedicated cycle path to lunch at Spike Island near the Wigan canal & Catalyst Museum.  Distance to lunch is 28 miles.

Following lunch we will ride to Pickerings Pasture, Hale, past Speke Airport to Otterspool and onto the cycleway to the Pier Head.   Total ride distance is 44 miles.
