36 miles, Grade C: Port Sunlight to New Brighton via Irby

This is a grade C ride of just over 36 miles, starting outside Port Sunlight Railway Station.

The route is from Port Sunlight out to Lower Heswall via Poulton Lancelyn, Raby Mere, Thornton Hough, and Gayton, with a break at around 12 miles just after Heswall Dales.  Then on through Thurstaston, around Irby, across Arrowe Park, past Upton Cross, then up and down Bidston Hill, with a tour of the (restored) tip at Bidston Moss, before going through Wallasey and New Brighton for lunch after 27 miles on Victoria Parade (there are three cafes there and benches for anyone bringing their own sandwiches).

The return will be along Magazines and Egremont Promenade, past Woodside Ferry, through Rock Park, for a final lap of the other (restored) tip at River Park, before getting back to Port Sunlight Railway Station.  Click here to see the route on Komoot: Port Sunlight to Irby and New Brighton

There is one quite steep hill (50m in 2.5km) from Lower Heswall up Thurstaston Road, and one very steep hill (50m in 1km) from the Beechwood Estate up Bidston Hill.  Walking up the second hill is allowed.   And you will need to carry your bike up and down a short set of stairs after Shorefields to get to the River Park just before Port Sunlight.
